STEPPER MOTOR

This motor name stepper motor as because this motor rotates through a fixed angular step in response to each input pulse receive by the controller. For growth of computer industries stepper motor demand also increased. Their polarity is due to fact that they can be controlled by computer, microprocessors.
The unique feature of stepper motor is that its output shaft rotates in a series of discrete angular intervals or steps, one step being taken each time a command pulse is received. when a definite number of pulse are supplied, the shaft turns through a definite known angle. this fact makes the motor well suited for open loop position control because no feedback need taken from the output shaft.
IN BRIEF STEPPER MOTOR:
A stepper motor is an electromechanical device which converts electrical pulses into discrete mechanical movements.Stepper motors are commonly used for precision positioning control applications. All-stepper motors possess five common characteristics which make them ideal for this application. Namely, they are brush-less, load independent; have open loop positioning capability, good holding torque, and excellent response characteristics.
Application of Stepper Motor:
Stepper motor are used for operation control in computer peripherals, robotics, textile industries, IC fabrication, automated plants etc. Application requiring incremental motion are line printer, type writer, tap driver, floppy disk drive, compact disk drive, numerically control machine tools, X-Y plotter, process control system .
Position information can be obtained simply by keeping count of the pulses sent to the motor thereby eliminating the need for expensive position sensor and feedback controls.
Countless task: Stepper Motor
Stepper motor also perform countless task outside the computer industry. It includes military, commercial and medial application where these motors perform such function as mixing, cutting, striking, metering and purging. Stepper motor also used at manufacturing units to packed food stuffs, commercial and products and the production of science fiction movies.
Types of Stepper motor:
1.  Variable Reluctance Stepper motor:  It has wound stator poles but rotor poles are made of ferromagnetic material. it can be of single stack or multi stack. Single stack gives larger step angle where multi stack gives smaller step angles. Direction of motor control is independent of the polarity of the stator current. It is called variable reluctance motor because the reluctance of magnetic circuit formed by the rotor and stator teeth varies with the angular position of the rotor.
2.   Permanent Magnet Stepper motor:   It has wound stator pole and rotor poles are permanent magnetized. Its direction depends on polarity of the stator.
3.   Hybrid Stepper motor:   It has wound stator poles and permanently magnetized rotor poles. It is best suited when small step angles of 1.8, 2.5, 3.7 etc. are required.
