Trickle Charging

TRICKLE CHARGING

When a battery is kept entirely as an emergency condition, it is essential to be fully charged and ready for service in emergency.
Due to Leakage action and other open circuit losses, the battery deteriorates even when idle or open circuit. So, to keep it fresh, the battery kept in Trickle Charge.
The rate of Trickle Charge is small and just sufficient to balance open circuit losses..

Examples of Trickle Charge:

a standby battery for station bus bar capable of giving 3000 A for 1 hr having normal charging rate 600 A, but continuous trickle charge of 1.5 A or so will keep the cell fully charged and in perfect condition. when any emergency situation occurred battery can be use, after discharged the battery it is recharged at its normal charging rate and then kept it on continuous trickle charge.
